Trauma-Informed Approaches

Safety, choice, and pacing.

Section 1

What trauma-informed means

Draft · awaiting owner review

The U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) lists six principles for a trauma-informed approach: safety; trustworthiness and transparency; peer support; collaboration and mutuality; empowerment, voice and choice; and attention to cultural, historical and gender issues.

In this manual that means you choose your pace, you can skip any exercise, and nothing asks you to relive details of a traumatic event.
